The Prodigal Self

An honest assessment

Luke 15:17NKJV

Text: Luke 15:17NKJV

And when he came to himself, he said, How many hired servants of my father's have bread enough and to spare, and I perish with hunger!

Introduction:

It is not uncommon for a Christians to feel as if life is not what they thought it would be. Often, more than one would care to mention, life becomes a struggle and even though we pray and ask God for direction, it seems as if God is not hearing our prayers. When a Christian feels this way, it should cause one to stop and examine their spiritual condition. This sermon is inspired by God, and commissioned by God to help you in understanding how to stay connected and encouraged that God has not left you, nor that His love for you has vanished.

1. The son believed that he knew what was best for him rather than anyone else.

Every way of a man is right in his own eyes: but the LORD pondereth the hearts.

                                                                                                     Proverbs 21:2NKJV

Because the carnal mind is enmity against God: for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be.

                                                                                                    Romans 8:7NKJV

2. The son was allotted time to experience his own understanding of himself.

And not many days after the younger son gathered all together, and took his journey into a far country, and there wasted his substance with riotous living.          Luke 15:13NKJV

There is treasure to be desired and oil in the dwelling of the wise; but a foolish man spendeth it up.

                                                       Proverbs 21:20NKJV

But your iniquities have separated between you and your God, and your sins have hid his face from you, that he will not hear.

                                                         Isaiah 59:2NKJV

3. The son reached a point where he realized that his understanding was not working.

14 And when he had spent all, there arose a mighty famine in that land; and he began to be in want. 15And he went and joined himself to a citizen of that country; and he sent him into his fields to feed swine. 16And he would fain have filled his belly with the husks that the swine did eat: and no man gave unto him. 17And when he came to himself, he said, How many hired servants of my father's have bread enough and to spare, and I perish with hunger!
