Ever Asked God Why

Have you ever asked God why? Those of us who are Christians will ask God this question. This does not in any way, take away from our commitment to Christ. That is of course, if we don’t turn away from God regardless of the situation. If we don’t deny God or reject His will in our lives, dialogue is always good. I would think that people who don’t believe in God, don’t ask Him why. I would think they don’t talk to Him at all. On the other hand, a dialogue with God should be daily, and often. I am sold out for God, and I talk to Him sometimes and ask why from time to time. He has never answered me with a voice but has in other ways left me with no doubt what He wanted me to do. It is like knowing the answer to a question without any reservation that you are right. That’s knowing what God wants you to do.

Here are some people and places in the Bible where they ask why in the form of, “Are You Sure God?”.

Note: All Bible verses are from the “American Standard Version” Published in 1901; public domain.

In Matthew 26:39And he went forward a little, and fell on his face, and prayed, saying, My Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass away from me: nevertheless, not as I will, but as thou wilt. Jesus knew what was before Him, but said, “But as Thou Wilt.”, He was going to obey the Father. Jesus did not turn away from His mission, to save the world, if they wanted to be saved. Jesus knew what He was about to go through and as being part human, he naturally felt the discomfort of what was to come.

In Genesis 18:12And Sarah laughed within herself, saying, After I am waxed old shall I have pleasure, my lord being old also?” Sarah was questioning God that he could do what He said.

In Exodus 3:11And Moses said unto God, Who am I, that I should go unto Pharaoh, and that I should bring forth the children of Israel out of Egypt?” Moses told God that he might not be the man for the job. God ensured Moses that he would not be alone, God would be with him. We should remember this, if God calls us for a task, God will be there to help us with the task.

In Judges 6:15And he said unto him, Oh, Lord, wherewith shall I save Israel? behold, my family is the poorest in Manasseh, and I am the least in my father's house.” Gideon did not seem to be a brave man, but with God, he became a brave and powerful leader.

In Joshua 7:7And Joshua said, Alas, O Lord Jehovah, wherefore hast thou at all brought this people over the Jordan, to deliver us into the hand of the Amorites, to cause us to perish? would that we had been content and dwelt beyond the Jordan!”

Joshua 7:8 Oh, Lord, what shall I say, after that Israel hath turned their backs before their enemies!” Joshua saw defeat, because of the action of Achan. He took things in battle that God said not to take. Joshua did question God, but God never left him because Joshua was faithful to God and obeyed God’s commands.

In Matthew 11:1 And it came to pass when Jesus had finished commanding his twelve disciples, he departed thence to teach and preach in their cities.”

Matthew 11:2Now when John heard in the prison the works of the Christ, he sent by his disciples” This is John the Baptist asking this question. He was wondering why Jesus did not proclaim He was the Messiah. John did not take into consideration that Jesus was on God’s time frame. John did not lose faith in God.

In Mark 6:37But he answered and said unto them, Give ye them to eat. And they say unto him, Shall we go and buy two hundred shillings' worth of bread, and give them to eat?” The Apostles questioned God about the food He wanted to give everyone. They did look at the multitude and wondered how this was going to happen. God heard them and still showed them a miracle.

In John 20:25The other disciples therefore said unto him, We have seen the Lord. But he said unto them, Except I shall see in his hands the print of the nails and put my finger into the print of the nails, and put my hand into his side, I will not believe.” This is about Thomas not believing the other Apostles that they had seen Jesus. He wanted physical proof that Jesus was alive. Jesus knew this and came to show Thomas, they did see Him.

In Acts 9:13 But Ananias answered, Lord, I have heard from many of this man, how much evil he did to thy saints at Jerusalem:”

Acts 9:14 and here he hath authority from the chief priests to bind all that call upon thy name.” Ananias questioned the task of putting a hand on Saul to cure him of blindness. Ananias was asking the creator of the universe if He knew who this Saul guy was. But being a good disciple did what he was told and honored God in doing so.

Have a dialogue with God is always a good thing. Remember to wait for God to answer in His time frame. We don’t always get a response, but put God first and ourselves last. All the people we read about were faithful to God no matter what.
