1Corinthians 10:1-5 September 07, 2022
Are people in Church going to heaven?
There seem to be some people who think if they donate money, attend a church a lot, or part-time, they believe they are going to Heaven just because they are good people that confess to being Christians. Jesus talks about a narrow door in Luke 13:24. “Strive to enter through the narrow door. For many, I tell you, will seek to enter and will not be able.” This says to us that not all confessed Christians are going to the Promise Land. Let’s see what Paul said in 1 Corinthians 10.
1 Corinthians 10:1 For I do not want you to be unaware, brothers, that our fathers were all under the cloud, and all passed through the sea,
1 Corinthians 10:2 and all were baptized into Moses in the cloud and in the sea,
1 Corinthians 10:3 and all ate the same spiritual food,
1 Corinthians 10:4 and all drank the same spiritual drink. For they drank from the spiritual Rock that followed them, and the Rock was Christ.
1 Corinthians 10:5 Nevertheless, with most of them God was not pleased, for they were overthrown in the wilderness.
In verse 1, Paul was referring to the Jews leaving Egypt in Exodus 13:21,22
Exodus 13:21 And the LORD went before them by day in a pillar of cloud to lead them along the way, and by night in a pillar of fire to give them light, that they might travel by day and by night.
Exodus 13:22 He took not away the pillar of cloud by day and the pillar of fire by night did not depart from before the people.
In the verses, Paul talked about they all were together and had the same blessing from God. In verse 2 all were baptized, in verse 3 all ate spiritual food, and in verse 4 all drank from the spiritual water. They were all together in Christ.
We read in verse 5, “most of them God was not pleased” these people never accepted God totally. Remember in Exodus after they were safe from Egypt, some of the people wanted to go back to Egypt, they built a Golden Calf. We read in “Hebrews 3:17 And with whom was he provoked for forty years? Was it not with those who sinned, whose bodies fell in the wilderness?” They thought that just by being with Moses and coming with him out of Egypt they were going to Paradise just by being with the group.
Those of us that confessed to being Christians should be careful not to fall into this pit. That we don’t take the salvation our Lord gives us for granted.
Paul saw the same problem in the Church of Corinth that Moses saw in the Jewish people that came out of Egypt. We have the same pitfall in our Ministries and our Churches today. We need stronger Christians to help the weaker Christians to see and know some of the pitfalls of being a Christian. Paul wanted the Christians to come together in unity, to be of one spirit and of one mind.
We as Christians must be part of the family of God that grows God’s kingdom, we read in “1Timothy 3:15 if I delay, you may know how one ought to behave in the household of God, which is the church of the living God, a pillar and buttress of the truth.”
Remember don’t just read the Bible, Study It.
God Bless
